Engage, Enlighten, Entertain. Presenting Your Work to Non-Scientists

Key methods, practical guidelines, and concrete practice. This presentation training will improve your skills in presenting your research outside of the scientific community. The workshop takes a practical approach, and will cover these topics:
Contents
- Cater to the brain! How to employ media in an optimized way
- Mind the gap by building bridges: How to reach and engage your audience
- From fidgeting to shaky hands: How to channel nervous energy
- Using your hands and your stance: How to gain stability and exude competence
- Post-workshop is pre-presentation: practical tips and exercises on how to continue improving your presentation skills on your own
And in case you’re wondering: while the techniques and methods covered in this course are especially important for presenting outside of your peer group, they will be beneficial for any presentation context you might find yourself in.
Time table
17 October (face-to-face-event): 2-4 pm + circa 2-3 hours of self-scheduled work, peer feedback and short individual feedback sessions until the next session
24 October (online): 2-3:30 pm + circa 2-3 hours of self-scheduled work, peer feedback and short individual feedback sessions until the next session
7 November (face-to-face-event): 2-4 pm + optional 15 minutes of individual feedback
Time frame for individual meeting slots: 2-3 weeks after the final session. Will be scheduled between second and last session.
