Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook
The synthesis focuses on the overarching research question of possible and plausible climate futures, which CLICCS regularly assesses on the basis of current research results. The results are published annually in the Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook series, the first issue will appear in 2020. This outlook which will be peer-reviewed by external experts and is aimed at the international climate science community as well as the readers of the IPCC’s Summary for Policymakers. The Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook will be international in scope, but is based on the specific approach developed by CLICCS in Hamburg.
The Outlook will address possible and plausible climate futures by reviewing specific, possibly recurring, aspects of plausible social dynamics and their implications for global emissions, plausible physical dynamics with resulting temperature trajectories and weather extremes, and plausible capacities for adaptation, including new technologies. Based on current research results within and outside CLICCS, we will annually reassess the actual (ongoing and projected) developments in relation to the Paris goals. This includes the plausible climate futures with potentially extreme impacts on global or regional scale.
