German Shrimp Fisheries
To gain a bottom-up understanding of German shrimp fisheries, we conducted and analysed more than 40 interviews with actors in the coastal fisheries.
This study indicated that questions revolving around climate change range on a rear position as coastal fisheries are currently on the verge of a considerable decline. However, perceptions and practices of fishing exhibit a detailed climate change perception of fishers in their marine environment which provide entry-points for assessing and enhancing scientific models and the negotiation of adaptation options.
A lack of recognising these perceptions and the neglect of integrating the divers ‘knowledges’ (Schwermer, Blöcker, Möllmann & Döring 2021) entail conflict with perspectives on and assessments of fisheries management forming the backbone for constructing plausible climate change adaptation options.
