The Cluster of Excellence CLICCS and the Earth and Society Research Hub (ESRAH) now have a new home. Together with colleagues from e.g. oceanography and the social sciences, plus the Office Team, the researchers have now moved to the Haus der Erde (“House of the Earth”), where they can pursue research and learn together...

Jochem Marotzke, director at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and deputy spokesperson for the University of Hamburg’s Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climate Change, and Society” (CLICCS), has been awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

How reliably can extreme weather events like heatwaves and torrential rains be simulated? In a new CLICCS study, a team led by Dr. Lukas Brunner shows that random variability in the climate system has a substantial influence on how often extreme events occur, and in which intensity. “This aspect is particularly relevant for...

Was hilft gegen Ohnmacht und Stillstand?

A new analysis of the long-term ‘Down2Earth’ study, carried out by CLICCS researchers Anne Reif, Nele-Sophie Brebeck and Michael Brüggemann in collaboration with Lars Guenther of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, shows that the majority of people in Germany continue to support climate action.

Around the world, butterflies’ distribution ranges are changing – often in connection with climate change and extreme weather. The results of an international meta-study by the University of Hamburg and investigating 1,758 butterfly species have just been published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution.
