Diverse Climates Hamburg
Diverse Climates Hamburg is an event series which focuses on diversity, inclusion and equity in the academic work environment. We invite the scientific community of CLICCS and beyond to come together to reflect and engage in conversations, fostering a sense of openness and understanding. By pursuing a bottom-up approach and providing an informal forum for engaging with pluralities of perspectives, Diverse Climates Hamburg aims to contribute to community building and to creating a sense of belonging within CLICCS and its broader research environment.

Background story
The origins of the event series emerged as the post COVID-pandemic world started gathering again. An informal group came together to organise two film screenings, focusing on issues faced by women in science and in leadership positions, followed by discussions. The events resonated with the community and thus, the group decided to continue its' activities as "Diverse Climates Hamburg". The portfolio of event formats was expanded from film screenings to talks by invited speakers, including both formal and informal discussions – with more gathering formats to be explored in the future. The general approach is to engage with the pluralities of perspectives and to offer a safe space for respectful yet critical discussions of diversity topics. The guiding questions are: How can we create an academic work environment that celebrates diversity, that is inclusive and gives empathy a chance?
