Postdoc Talks – Gender Equality in Science: Identify the Barriers. Shape the Change.
When: Tue, 27.10.2026 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM
Where: Hamburg Research Academy, Online
Women in science are highly qualified – yet they remain structurally disadvantaged. They are underrepresented in leadership positions, less visible as experts, and more likely to face hate speech when they speak up. This is not an individual failure. It is a system that distributes recognition, visibility, and career opportunities unequally.
This lecture examines why the gap persists and what can be done about it – at the structural level and the individual one. Drawing on current data, role models, allies and real career stories, ways to increase visibility, and the power of networks, it explores how scientists can expand their scope for action and contribute to greater gender equality in their field.
The session includes 45 minutes of input followed by Q&A and short interactive exercises.
Open to all scientists and researchers interested in understanding gender dynamics in academia and becoming part of the change.
Postdoc Talks: The online series provides an open platform for discussing topics central to the postdoctoral career path. You can gain insights from experts in the research landscape and the academic community, while also exchanging ideas with other postdocs.
Career Stage:
Postdoctoral Phase, Junior Research Group Leaders, W1 Professorship
The event is open to all users of the Hamburg Research Academy, participation is free of charge, please register here.
