Since July 1st, the Synthesis Team has been complete: four experts from vastly different fields are now working intensively on the upcoming Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook, including two new additions:
Dr. Anna Pagnone is an environmental physicist and represents the team’s natural sciences expertise. Born and raised in Italy, she studied at the University of Bremen and completed her doctorate at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven. At the AWI, she investigated the influence of the marine iron cycle on marine life and the climate – with a biogeochemical model and during an expedition to the Southern Ocean on board the icebreaker Polarstern. At CLICCS she looks forward to exploring the interactions between climate and society together with a broad range of other experts. According to Pagnone: “I love the interdisciplinarity and the diverse setting that CLICCS has to offer. By working on the Synthesis Team, I’m already learning so much about the social aspects of climate change, thanks to the support of my wonderful colleagues.”
Dr. Andrés López Rivera studied Political Science in Lyon and London and completed his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Social Research in Cologne. His research focused on how to most effectively integrate the knowledge of indigenous peoples into governance processes for climate change. He is very interested in teamwork and lively exchanges with his peers at the Cluster: “I’m very happy to be part of the community and, through my work, to contribute to a central CLICCS product, the next Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook.”
Together with sociologist Dr. Eduardo Gonçalves Gresse, whose work focuses on sustainable development governance, and political scientist Dr. Jan Wilkens, whose research involves international relations, climate governance and climate justice in West Asia and North Africa, the Synthesis Team is ideally prepared for the tasks that await it.
